Jamaat Now Has More Support Than BNP: Dr. Md. Helal Uddin
Jamaat-e-Islami Central Executive Committee member, Naib-e-Ameer of Dhaka South City, and parliamentary candidate for Dhaka-8, Dr. Md. Helal Uddin, has said that Jamaat now enjoys far greater public support than the BNP. He stated that people want change and ordinary citizens will no longer vote for extortionists.
Speaking as the chief guest at a reception organized by the Jamaat-e-Islami Motijheel East Thana unit for distinguished individuals on Monday evening at a hotel in Motijheel, Dhaka, Dr. Helal Uddin made these remarks. The event was presided over by Thana Ameer Md. Nuruddin and conducted by Thana Secretary Md. Khalilur Rahman.
Dr. Helal Uddin said, “Our Ameer is a popular leader—leaders of such popularity rarely appear in Bangladesh’s politics. Under the leadership of Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Jamaat-e-Islami will, InshaAllah, build a just and prosperous society.”
He added that even children recognize Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and chant slogans when they see him. Through sacrifice and dedication, Jamaat-e-Islami has earned a place in the hearts of people—young and old, men and women alike.
Criticizing BNP leaders Habibur and Fazlur, he said shouting against Jamaat will not yield any results. “It is now time for us to take on challenges. A spirit of change has grown among the people. They no longer want to see these extortionists,” he said.
Dr. Helal Uddin accused BNP leaders of initially dismissing the anti-autocracy student movement, with Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir claiming it had no connection to BNP. “Now they are trying to take credit, claiming to be the architects of the movement—this is shameful trickery, and the people see through it,” he remarked.
He called on party members to guard polling stations with their lives if necessary to prevent vote rigging, stressing that women would play a significant role in the electoral process. “Our votes are a sacred trust, and we must protect them. We must be prepared to sacrifice our lives and wealth as the most persecuted political party in the upcoming election,” he said.
The discussion meeting also featured speeches from Jamaat leader Mostafa Khan and Jamaat-endorsed Ward 8 council candidate Jasimul Haque Patwari, among others.
